"Senjogahara" moorland

There is one of the most famous moorland in Japan and that name is "Senjogahara (戦場ヶ原）" in Nikko area.
"Senjogahara" means "the place of war".

Actually we know a fork story about Senjogahara.

Long time ago, two Gods of mountains fighting here. One is the God of Mt. Futara (= Mt. Nantai) and one is Mt. Akagi. The God of Mt. Futara  transformed big snake (like dragon) and Mt. Akagi transformed largest centipede. Two Gods were fighting at Senjogahara for getting Lake Chuzenji and finally the God of Mt. Futara winning.

I recommend go to hiking around Senjogahara if you like nature discovering. You can see several type of nature: forest, moorland, stream and falls. And you may meet God !? with any luck. :-)

You can go to Nikko area by train from Tokyo and it takes three hours. Nikko is one of world's heritage place and best sight seeing spot. Especially I recommend seeing Toshyogu shrine that is best of baroque style in Japanese monuments. There is close to Nikko station.
When you will go Senjogahara, have to go by bus from Nikko station and it takes a hour.
